When I go back to my home town for family holidays and parties I don’t want to spend all my time in the kitchen preparing a wonderful meal for family and friends. After the long drive I would rather just sit and relax with my family. With the help of Kraft Recipe Makers I was able to prepare the best quick meal (my boyfriend rated it a 11 out of 10). Lucky for me most of the cooking happened while I was sleeping.
I wanted to make something that would wow my family. While shopping at Walmart a few weeks ago I saw these meal starters by Kraft. They have nine different varieties so I had a hard time choosing which one I wanted to try. I ended up trying the Hickory BBQ Beef one and boy am I glad I did. Instead of beef I wanted to try a pulled pork. I had never made pulled pork before but these meal starters were an easy fix.
All I had to do was poor the simmer sauce over the pulled pork and cook on low overnight for 8-10 hours.
These Kraft Recipe Makers are perfect for students and busy families. Being a college student with a different schedule than my boyfriend it’s nice being able to throw something in the slow cooker that both of us can enjoy anytime of the day.
After the meat is nice and tender you pull the pork with two fork slowly.
Look how tender and juicy the pork is after using the simmer sauce overnight.
Remove the excess fat and onions left in the bottom of the slow cooker so your meat isn’t full of grease.
Place the meat back in the slow cooker.
Drizzle the BBQ sauce all over the pork.
Stir until all the pork is covered evenly with BBQ sauce and place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high for 15-25 minutes.
While the pork was warming back up I whipped up a side salad that included:
Romaine lettuce, applewood smoked bacon bits, and all natural Italian seasoned croutons.
The pulled pork sandwiches paired perfectly with a side salad and southern sweet tea.
- 1 Box Hickory BBQ Beef Kraft Recipe Makers
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3.5 lb. pork shoulder
- Slice onion into thin slices and place in bottom of the slow cooker. Place unwrapped pork shoulder on top on the onions fat side up. Pour the brown sugar & cider vinegar simmer sauce over the pork. Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours. Once the pork is nice and tender remove and transfer to a large cutting board. Pull the pork apart with two forks until it's evenly shredded. Remove the liquid and onions from the slow cooker and place in a small bowl (you can save the onions and liquid or you can throw them away). Place the shredded pork back into the slow cooker. Pour the sweet hickory BBQ finishing sauce over the shredded pork and mix. Place lid back on the slow cooker and cook on high for 15-25 minutes. Pair with a large side salad for a complete meal. Enjoy!
